WASHINGTON STATE LEGISLATURE
At a public hearing of the House Rural Development, Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee on January 23, WFFA staff and officers representing small forestland owners underscored the divide between what was promised by the Forest and Fish legislation 20 years ago and what’s been delivered so far. House Bill 1273 would set up a legislative work group to conduct a study on forestland currently managed by small forestland owners and how the 1999 state law has affected the industry. The report would be due by November.
A report published by The Lens is available and testimony given at the hearing can be viewed on TVW. To hear testimony by Dr. Elaine Oneil, Ken Miller, and Vic Musselman, scroll to minute 51. Vic Musselman's testimony is also available in printed form.
Heather Hansen represents WFFA as a lobbyist in the Washington Legislature. Her reports track bills of interest to small forest land owners, and the upcoming schedule for hearings on bills of interest.
